Good Day Noir Family,

Although she plays a completely different genre, her vocal interpretation and compositional style made me think of Bjork.
An artist who follows only her instincts and passion and not the commercial rules of mainstream music. Artists like Ourida, with their creativity that knows no boundaries, are a source of inspiration for many people.
With her passionate art and willpower, she manages to be appreciated by the masses.
The melodic lines are intricate and sophisticated and the musical arrangements of Jonathan Levy on bass and Joe Hertenstein on drums are the icing on the cake.
Wings is a pearl. An album of undoubted quality where all the tracks are solid and intriguing. The vintage and noir vibe at times made me feel like I was in a Hitchcock movie.
I will follow this artist closely as her musical universe has conquered me.

The apparent separation between Algerian roots, American modernism and French chanson finds a common ground in Ourida’s avant-garde songwriting – urban songs mixing folk rock, art pop melodies, world beat and jazz groove. She is a French-Algerian songwriter, singer, pianist, ukulele player, and a Brooklyn resident with multiple uprootings and a unique sound.
After winning the Zebrock Award and Arcadi residency grant in Paris, she performed for years in Parisian clubs (baiser salé, divan du monde), venues (la boule noire, les trois baudets) and festivals (villes des musiques du monde with Akli D, main stage of la fête de l’Humanité) and lived in Marseille before being invited to perform in Canada and Brazil. She released her first album ‘Monkeys’ in 2010 and played it in a French solo tour (le megaphone tour) before moving to New York City.
In a trio with Jonathan Levy on bass and Joe Hertenstein on drums, she played regularly in the most artistically diverse and experimentally creative clubs – Barbès, Lunatico, Nublu, Drom, Rockwood Music Hall, Soapbox gallery, Bowery Electric, ShapeShifter Lab – and collaborated with the best musicians of the active scene, like Yayo Serka, Panagiotis Andreou, Or Bareket… She is now playing with Jeff Miles on guitar and Ben Zwerin on bass, creating a more electric and personalized sound that sits outside any particular musical era. The song ‘Amanti’, a collaboration with Ben Zwerin and Raed el Khazen, have been selected as a semi-finalist for Unsigned Only 2021.
Critically acclaimed in Europe by the Parisian Radio Nova for her powerful stage presence, by l’Humanite for her “Rickie Lee Jones” style, and by French Morning for her lyrics “playing with our emotions,” she was booked consecutive years at the Brooklyn Borough Hall by the United Nations Day’s co-chairman: “Ourida’s beautiful and inspiring music and lyrics evoke the powerful role of women in our society. She is a unique talent.”
