Transcending Into the Unknown’s Self-Titled Single is Out Now
This musical project is very intriguing as the musicians who are part of it are all relatives.
The thing that struck me the most is seeing how people so close manage to have such a peculiar musical approach.
Listening to their self-titled single Transcending Into the Unknown is like witnessing the 3 Tenors (Pavarotti, Domingo, and Carreras). Filip Dahl, Stian Dahl, and Robert Dahl with their guitars alternate solos and you can appreciate their personality through their playing.
The song is fantastic with “Pinkfloydian” influences. The melodies are ethereal and ancestral and manage to make you travel with your imagination.
While listening to this beautiful song I imagined driving a spaceship to discover distant galaxies.
A great find that I recommend to everyone.
Transcending Into the Unknown‘s Self Titled Single is Out Now!
Superlative!
Transcending Into the Unknown’s Self-Titled Single is Out Now
Transcending Into the Unknown” is a collaboration project involving the Norwegian artists Filip Dahl, Stian Dahl and Robert Dahl. As indicated by their surname they are all related, and Filip and Robert are brothers while Stian is Filip’s son. The track they are releasing on April 7th has been entitled the same as their musical project, as they initially felt that it was a bit like moving into the unknown. This will be their first ever joint release, but hopefully not the last one.
Filip Dahl is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who started his music career as lead guitarist in various Norwegian rock bands back in the 70’s, before moving on to become a recognized engineer and record producer. He was one of the main founders and owners of the renown Brygga Studio in Trondheim during the 80’s and 90’s. He took a self-imposed break from the music scene during the beginning of the new century, but he has been back again for full in recent years with several album and single releases. Filip Dahl’s music spans from melodic prog rock via blues rock to harmonic and symphonic rock, clearly revealing his roots and influences by bands like Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Kansas, Marillion and Dream Theater.
Stian Dahl started playing guitar at a young age and quickly developed a passion for it. In his early years, Stian was heavily influenced by blues and rock, which can be heard in his playing style. However, as he continued to develop his skills, he began incorporating elements of other genres, such as neoclassical and death metal. During the 90’s and 00s he played in various punk rock and metal bands, but in recent years plays the guitar mostly as a hobby. Stian draws inspiration from other guitarists like Dimebag Darrell, Paul Gilbert, Bradon Ellis and Rick Graham.
Robert Dahl cut his musical teeth on the subculture punk-/metalscene of the Norwegian city Trondheim during the late 80’s as the front man of his band Ack-Ack, which enjoyed some modest success locally. He left the music-scene for a longer period but he is, like his brother Filip, back again for full and this time as the artist pzyroks. Pzyroks draws inspiration from music styles such as thrash metal, doom and stoner rock, as well as blues and even jazz. His center of attention (and love) has always been the guitar.
“Transcending Into the Unknown” is a guitar based instrumental track which spans from blues rock to metal and progressive rock. The guitar solos performed by Filip (from 00:00 to 00:56), Stian (from 02:10 to 02:49) and Robert (from 02:50 to 03:25) can be distinguished easily, as they are all characterised by the distinct tone and signature to each of them. The differences in their playing styles and tone are quite remarkable and interesting to listen to, while it simultaneously clearly shows their common love and dedication when it comes to guitars and guitar playing.
