The thing that struck me immediately is the wonderful voice of this artist.
A sinuous and magical voice that has the ability to hypnotize the listener. As I was listening to this intricate and nostalgic melody I felt like a cobra in front of its master.
For some reason, Niamh McKinney’s singing reminded me of Alanis Morissette. In the vocal interpretation, I heard ethnic nuances that made me think of India.
I was really impressed with this song and the quality of the chord progression. The attention to every little detail is maniacal and certainly, Niamh McKinney produces quality music.
I’ve become an instant fan of her music and I’m curious to hear what she’ll be able to compose in the future.

The Price is Niamh McKinney’s Single
Niamh McKinney is a singer-songwriter from Wicklow. Having kept notebooks of poetry since childhood, she started writing songs out of the blue one day and wrote twelve in quick succession. Unsure as to the nature of what she had composed during this first creative burst, a form of validation came a month later when she won the Allingham Songwriting Competition with one of those first songs she wrote.
Poetically rich – both lyrically and melodically – her heart-rending songs draw on stories and life experiences, captivating by way of their ethereal sense of urgency and foreboding. Her melodies and lyrics are inspired by the beauty of the rural landscapes of Wicklow where she grew up and lives still.
Niamh writes her songs a capella. Her musical partner and husband Stephen McKinney then intuitively crafts evocative accompaniment which interweaves seamlessly with the songs, complementing their haunting quality. The pair have evolved an enormously creative partnership over the past five years.
