The work of Collin Thomas is meant to be experienced patiently. The pieces require the listener/viewer to give in to the sometimes mundane nature of it. Much of the work is slow and quiet, evolving from simple piano notes or glitches into ensembles of rich and vivid sound designs.
Just like the Cage quote above, what initially seems boring or monotonous will reward those who are willing to give it a chance. Though it is traditional in so-called “lowercase” soundscapes to listen intently with earphones, Thomas’ work might be just as at home in the background of a quotidian occasion, creating a mysterious, inquisitive landscape.
