From the opening track Alternativefacts, you know you’re in for something entirely unique.

The piano riffs feel like a refined twist on retro arcade game soundtracks, evoking hints of Mario Bros, but with an avant-garde sophistication.

Mighty brings a more ominous vibe, blending eerie atmospheres with top-tier technique and arrangements that sound as if they’ve been beamed in from another world.

Spectrum conjures the image of a chaotic, unseen ghost swirling around you. It’s driven by 80s-style electronic textures that make up Clarke’s distinctive sonic fingerprint.

Grahmcrackers stands out for its engaging rhythm and the way it marries rock-inspired drumming with intricate, avant-garde keys. There’s even a subtle influence from John Carpenter in the choice of tones, creating an unexpected yet brilliant contrast.

UNIT intrigues with its playful, rapid keys—almost as if you’re being teased by bystanders on a street corner. There’s an unmistakable sense of fun in the track, which feels refreshingly light amidst the album’s more cerebral offerings.

Interlude offers a brief respite, much like a pause between acts at a circus, allowing listeners to catch their breath before diving back into Clarke’s intricate world.

LOONS strikes with a matrix-like effect, resembling cascading numbers or the familiar screech of an old modem connecting. The track pulls you into an alternate dimension where digital meets organic.

SYCLE captivates with its unsteady, slightly sinister atmosphere, and the closing track Anthem offers a glimmer of hope, its brighter notes and uplifting melody creating a sense of resolution.

Plunge is an album like no other, all the songs are solid—Zack Clarke has created a whole new genre, and it’s exhilarating and inspiring to witness.

The blend of technical knowledge and raw talent here results in something truly futuristic, pushing music to the next level.

Revolutionary!

Zack Clarke began gigging early in life, playing everything from jazz to rock to hip hop. After studying with Danilo Perez, Jason Moran and Fred Hersch in Boston, he moved to New York and immediately joined a thriving improvised music community. He has been featured on numerous recordings and performed in festivals in the United States, Europe and South America. The idea for Plunge was to take his experience as a pianist and a member of the New York jazz scene and find a way to package it with his uncommon approach to production. “I have always believed that there is a lot of potential in the marriage of avant jazz and modern production technology that has not been tapped” Clarke says.

Plunge’s harmonic palette is wide open –– often without a tonal center. Yet the record overflows with infectious melodies. Bewilderingly complex rhythms are galvanized by funky and relatable beat patterns. Plunge references EDM, rock, jazz, and hip hop and the result is an endlessly engaging work of futuristic dance music and modern composition that rewards repeated listening and will appeal to fans of everything from Pat Metheny to Frank Zappa to Flying Lotus and Amon Tobin.
