our “Edgar Allan Poets’ Artists/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Ben Teeney and his double single Perfect Stranger x Gretzky’s Advice. I found this artist on Spotify and I liked the vibes of his music.

The sound proposed by this artist immediately intrigued me.
A compositional method that takes its cue from the past but manages to be modern at the same time.
Somehow this sound brings with it some 80’s vibes that have been expertly mixed with modern sounds and innovative melodies.
Ben Teeney’s vocal timbre instead reminded me of Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong.
We are certainly dealing with a talented artist. The thing I liked the most is that his songs hide a veil of Nostalgia. An ethereal and emotional compositional style that somehow reveals the sensitive soul of Ben Teeney.
In general, I believe that this musical project is solid and mature. An artist to keep under the radar as he produces high-quality music.

Ben Teeney is a Toronto-born indie-DIY-pop-rock-chaos-emo-punk artist who is both your AND your mom’s new favorite artist. His musical influence ranges between mid-2000’s favorites like Green Day, Mariana’s Trench, and Lights but also derives the modern energy of artists like Waterparks and Maggie Rogers. It tends to culminate in what Ben describes as “emo pop”, a combination of pop-punk, EDM, and contemporary pop music.
Last year, Ben signed to A Few Good Records – a Jersey based DIY punk label which primarily focuses on releasing cover compilations to fundraise money for charity. Branching out to release some of Ben’s original releases, AFGR put out one of his most adored songs to date, “Lip Service”, in 2021. “Lip Service” has earned nearly 20k Spotify streams, has been discovered on listener’s playlists for 60% of its streams, and helped push him over the 500k total stream landmark on Spotify!
