Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Paola Bennet. I discovered this Artist while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked her compositional style.
The thing that struck me the most as soon as I started listening to this beautiful song “My Mother Says” proposed by this talented artist is the passion with which Paola interprets the lyrics. Her voice keeps under control every little nuance, every slight vibrato, every sigh.
The vocal timbre is fantastic, a confident, warm, and sinuous voice that reaches the soul of the listener and warms the heart.
The song starts off in a soft way but then there is a more rock twist where the drums start pushing, making the melody grow… a way perhaps to give hope and energy since the song speaks about a difficult and important topic like mental health.
The video is fantastic, recorded in Super 8, with his vintage look that manages to create nostalgia.
Like when we find those old faded Polaroids in the drawer and all the memories of a past adventure resurface.
This is a perfect artistic choice and it is an absolutely winning combination of images and music.
My Mother Says is Paola Bennet’s Single Out Now!
Deep and Pure!
“My Mother Says” is a frank song about mental health and vulnerability with the people we care about, its production walking the line between dreamy folk and distorted rock. The song’s music video expands on that intimacy, painting a gorgeously lush portrait of the push-and-pull between twin sisters.
Directed by Marielle Boland (previous work includes LAV and The Wrecks), the video is drenched in late-summer bittersweetness, moving between dreamy Californian landscapes, rough-cut driving scenes, and intimate closeups of the sisters. Anyone who has had trouble opening up to the people they love will love the mix of nostalgia and rawness that “My Mother Says” brings on both listening and visual levels.
