Good Day Noir Family,
Josephine Assayech’s single “Mountains” immediately strikes you as the work of an artist with a deep compositional background.

From the moment you press play, the mysterious pad introduces a sense of intrigue, laying the groundwork for Assayech’s confident and nuanced vocals.

Her voice has a rich timbre, reminiscent of artists like Enya, with an evident classical music influence woven into the melodic and harmonic structure of the song.

I particularly liked the dynamic intuition around the 1:15 mark, where a solo piano break offers a reflective pause, creating a brief but powerful space for introspection before the track builds back up.

The way this section blends into the larger composition shows a mastery of dynamics and pacing that’s sophisticated and expressive.

“Mountains” succeeds in crafting an ethereal atmosphere while also carrying a personal emotional weight. The track reaches its emotional peak around 3:13 with a striking vocal high note, showcasing Assayech’s ability to channel vulnerability into strength.

The song’s lyrics touch on facing personal demons but also reflect an artist determined to push forward with resilience.

This track feels like a heartfelt journey of self-discovery, where Josephine Assayech invites the listener into her inner world, making it a powerful and moving listening experience.

A lot has already happened in the life of Josephine Assayech, a native of St. Gallen in eastern Switzerland. At home in both oriental music and a Puccini piece, she began her musical career as an 11-year-old in classical music at the St. Gallen Cathedral Singing School.

Over time, she developed a love for jazz/soul and old pop sounds. With her own interpretations of various cover songs, she revealed an unknown musical side for the first time, in which she incorporated her Italian, Persian and French roots. Most recently with “Wonderwall”, where she merged two otherwise distant musical worlds with a mix of classical high notes and electronic sounds.

Her ethereal Oasis interpretation achieved over 100,000 views on YouTube, was highly praised by critics and also made it onto the radio. The American review from the music blog “Song.Sung.New” described it as follows: “Assayech has the voice of an angel, as pure as freshly fallen snow. I’m not sure “Wonderwall” requires such divine gifts, but these certainly accommodate and benefit the song. In short, she has turned “Wonderwall” into what everyone wants it to be; a love song.”

In addition to the successes mentioned above, she sang solo in the Verdi opera at the renowned City Theater St. Gallen, danced and sang in the musical “My Fair Lady” last summer and also writes her own songs. At the end of last year, she released her first self-written single “ASHES”, which was very well received by international audiences and radio stations.
