The album opens with The Devil’s Apron, a chilling lament that feels like a raw cut to the soul, paving the way for an intense and gripping journey.
The expressive vocals pair with razor-sharp violin tones that slice through the air, immediately pulling the listener into her eerie undersea world.
With Salted Shroud, a faint melody begins to emerge—dark and sinister, yet strangely mesmerizing. The piece brings a gloomy charm that’s hard to resist.
Alkali Halo shifts the atmosphere slightly, introducing subtle jazz influences and a nostalgic melody that sends shivers down the spine. The track feels ancient and otherworldly.
The Search evokes a sense of wandering, as its title suggests, with music that could easily underscore a dark animated sequence. It’s almost cinematic, a testament to Abbate’s ability to paint vivid mental images through her compositions.
In Shards of Glass, the medieval-inspired vocals and violins blend with avant-garde elements, pulling the listener deeper into this chilling sonic realm.
Water Into Light brings a brief respite, offering a glimmer of hope through angelic-like choruses that create a moment of tranquillity within the album’s darker themes.
Incantation follows with mischievous, ghostly voices that seem to dart around the listener, evoking an unsettling yet refined experience.
Symbology, with its eerie clapping and menacing tones, transports you to a nightmare-filled landscape where paranoia reigns.
Death of a Witch is another standout, vividly capturing the harrowing scene of a witch burning at the stake, as her companions look on in quiet anguish. The track stirs something deep, blending sorrow and dread masterfully.
The Nameless is an intricate composition of controlled chaos, mimicking the frantic thoughts of a mind overwhelmed by stimuli, where meanings slip through your grasp.
Tentacles brings the album to a sinister close. The prolonged opening note creates an unstable platform, evoking the sensation of being caught in quicksand as the instruments cautiously navigate through treacherous depths.
LAMINARIA is a masterwork—an intense, singular journey through classic horror that demands attention, particularly as we enter the spooky season.
Abbate’s ability to mix ancient influences with modern avant-garde makes this album a must-listen for anyone seeking an evocative experience.
