Good Day Noir Family,
Icarus Phoenix’s debut album is a treasure trove for music lovers seeking a journey through diverse soundscapes.
I Should Have Known the Things You Never Said is Icarus Phoenix’s Album Out Now
Each song unfolds like a new chapter, revealing a fresh facet of the band’s musical universe.
The album opens with “The Things You Never Told Me,” an intimate and delicate track brimming with sweet nostalgia. The refined vocals and gentle instrumentation evoke a sense of longing and lost memories.
The second track, “Live. Give. Lose. Grow.,” takes a dramatic turn. Its ethnic, epic feel draws inspiration, in my opinion, from traditional Irish music, particularly in the verses.
However, the chorus shifts gears, transforming into an alternative rock ballad, showcasing the band’s genre-bending ability.
“Painting,” featuring Teleprom, stands out for its ethereal atmosphere. The guitar’s subtle melody creates a magical backdrop, transporting the listener to another realm. This deeply emotional and intense song is a true highlight of the album.
“When It’s Time to Go” injects a dose of urgency with its driving rhythm and hints of R.E.M.’s signature sound. The contrast between this track and the mellower songs on the album keeps the listening experience dynamic and engaging.
Each song on the album shines brightly, demonstrating a level of musical maturity and a well-defined artistic vision.

When confronted with major life changes we find out who we are at our core. Writing these songs helped me wrap my head around the reality of not just a difficult breakup but navigating a co-parenting process with a person actively trying to push me out of my son’s life.
The attempts to empathize and understand a person who is actively attacking your perception of events is a fantastic exercise in letting go and going with the flow. To hold firm boundaries but not react in anger is a delicate test of balance and these aren’t lessons that can be taught outside of experience, but my hope is that someone else can relate to and/or understand their own struggles better in experiencing these songs.
The most difficult thing about a separation is how the foundation with which you’ve built your reality becomes water. Rebuilding that foundation of who you are is difficult. Especially when the foundation you’ve relied on in the past is now not only questionable but aggressively warping your reality. We’ve all dealt with sadness. With difficulties in life. That’s what this album is about. Confront the sadness. Learn from it. Become light. – Drew Danburry
