Chimera is Fantømex’s Ep Out Now
Good Day Noir Family,
Hold on tight, music fans, because Fantømex’s “Chimera” is about to take you on a wild ride.
Chimera is Fantømex’s Ep Out Now
This EP is a shot of pure adrenaline, a potent mix of punk, hard rock, and even metal that explodes from your speakers and demands your attention.
No Doubt 2.0 with a Supercharged Vocal Engine: If you remember the infectious energy of early No Doubt, you’ll find a familiar spark in Fantømex.
But forget Gwen Stefani’s vocals – Abigail Taylor is a force of nature, her voice packing an even more powerful punch.
She navigates the genre-bending limbo, soaring with melody and unleashing raw screams that leave you breathless.
This isn’t a band that plays by the rules. Each track on “Chimera” is a genre-defying exploration. The effect on Taylor’s voice at the end of “I Declare A Clone War” is a perfect example – it’s unsettling, innovative, and utterly unforgettable.
Spock Choy is a track that might just be the crown jewel of the EP. Stellar guitar riffs intertwine with Taylor’s phenomenal vocals, creating a melody that’s catchy and aggressive.
Push Up-King keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The grand finale, “A Duck of a Different Colour,” showcases Fantømex’s masterful musicianship. The harmonic variations and rhythmic shifts are impressive, proving they can blend prog complexity with punk-rock energy.
It’s a shame that bands like Fantømex often fly under the radar, while mainstream giants get all the attention. This EP shows their talent, creativity, and musical skills. Every song is a gem.
If you’re looking for music that pushes boundaries, challenges conventions, and leaves you wanting more, then look no further. Crank up the volume and let Fantømex take you on their wild ride.

Chimera is Fantømex’s Ep Out Now
Fantømex is an indie punk, post-harcore band from Western North Carolina; half the group resides in Asheville, NC and the other half in Morganton, NC. Fantømex started with longtime friends, guitarist Isaac Crouch and drummer Edwin Mericle, jamming together off and on for years; until, in 2017, they decided to take it to the next level and form an honest-to-goodness band. The two had gone to high school together and played in two previous bands with each other.
I Declare A Clone War is a warning about the unsung hero of upholding the patriarchy, the “Nice Guy,” who poses as an ally in femme and queer spaces as a means to gain access to women’s bodies; believing he is owed something for pretending to listen. He’s a brain eating zombie in nice guy clothing. Spock Choy is about feeling like a caged animal in this neo capitalist hellscape, and imagining what a revolt will look and feel like. Push-Up King is partially about sexual tension and partially about the empowering realization that you have a million better things to do with your time than to spend it with anyone who doesn’t treat you with respect. A Duck of a Different Colour describes the feeling of constantly longing for a better world and expressing it to someone who is apathetic, like you’re screaming at a brick wall.
