Catherine Elms’ Interview | Indie Music

Another day another song…why do you keep writing music?

I make music because I don’t know what else I’d do with my life – I think this is what I was created for. Writing music feels cathartic, expressive, and fun for me all at once. I’m inspired by deep human emotions, exploring our inner worlds, and big ideas. I like to write songs with complexity and darkness, as a way of shining the light on the things that haunt us – by bringing these themes out into the open, I hope to show others that they’re not alone.

What are your goals and musical vision?

I’m working towards becoming a full-time musician, and I hope to keep touring, collaborating with musicians I admire, and putting out amazing work that I’m really proud of. I’d like to keep growing and experimenting as an artist – one day I’d love to release a metal album! I’m also currently building my own home studio where I can record and produce my own work.

Tell me the story behind Monday Eyes?

I wrote this song during a bit of a quarter-life crisis, when trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life. Like many of us, I had always believed that if I just worked hard enough and proved myself worthy through collecting achievements, everything would fall into place, and success would find me. I realised that this is untrue. I found myself in a job that dampened my spirit, feeling like an awkward impostor, longing for something more, and mourning the future I’d envisaged for myself that never came. I think so many of us can relate to the feeling of getting to our twenties and entering the ‘real world,’ thinking “is this it?”. This song explores the idea that our future isn’t guaranteed, and we must forge our own path.

Tell us about your future projects.

I just finished recording my debut album, due to be released in November, and I’m tremendously proud of it. I love every song on the album, and it’s so raw and honest and powerful. I can’t wait to share it with the world! I’ll also be

Anything else you want us to know?

Catherine Elms’ Interview | Indie Music

Catherine Elms is a dark alternative singer/songwriter and pianist, whose music combines heavy rock, dark cabaret, emotionally-charged melodies and impassioned lyrics. A self-taught non-classical pianist, Catherine’s raw and evocative playing style lies directly between the brash power of PJ Harvey and the baroque pop-rock of 1990s Tori Amos.

Her music possesses a dark intensity with softly defined edges: both introspective and spirited. Described as “dramatic” (Buzz Magazine), “adventurous” (The Flux), “fragile and fierce” (Off The Radar), and “haunting” (South Wales Evening Post), Catherine is a rising artist in the South Wales music scene driven ever forward by a growing loyal fanbase
