Butterfly is Blindness & Light’s Single Out Now
Funky guitar riffs twist around a smooth bassline and syncopated drums, creating a locomotive effect that pushes the song forward with a fresh, steady momentum.
The ethereal vocals, the elegant melody, and the charming backing vocals by Helen Reynolds bring to mind the compositions of legendary songwriters like Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, and Brian Eno.
There’s an undeniable sophistication in how they’ve blended these influences.
Lyrically, “Butterfly” touches on life’s rawest moments—those rare, unfiltered emotions brought on by events like birth and death.
The bridge at 3:10 is a highlight, where the melody takes on a more magical, dreamlike quality, perfectly capturing the feeling of standing before the body of a loved one—here, a mother—as you let them go on their eternal journey.
It’s a song that resonates deeply, especially for those who’ve experienced similar emotions firsthand.
Blindness & Light have once again crafted a track that is musically rich and emotionally stirring. A beautiful, profound piece of work.

Butterfly was recorded on the Isle Of Anglesey. Mixing and mastering were carried out in Germany at Outback Studios by Benedikt and Thomas. Production was by Blindness & Light.
The song is about self-determination. We’re all dealt a hand at birth but we don’t have to accept the cards we end up with. Broadly speaking this is about the death of my mother and ends with finally letting go. “Your body’s cold, your eyes are closed”, is the feeling I remember as my mother’s cold hand was in mine and her life had drained away.
