Brutalised Robotics is Dez Dare’s Single Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
Dez Dare’s new single Brutalised Robotics kicks off with an electric burst of energy, a track that feels like stepping into an old-school arcade game, where neon lights flicker and pixelated sounds reign supreme.

Right from the start, it’s clear this is not a typical punk-rock offering. Dare has fused the raw aggression of rock with retro digital effects that evoke the essence of games like Legend of Zelda, creating an innovative sound that’s unlike anything else on the scene today.

The track starts with a raw, almost chaotic intensity—gritty guitars crashing against a rhythmic backbone of choppy, mechanical beats.

It almost feels as though the song is running at full speed, refusing to let up. But what’s striking is how this random noise starts to cohere as the song progresses, revealing an unexpected order beneath its apparent chaos.

Dare’s talent as an artist is evident as he carefully balances wild experimentation with structure. This is a track that’s rooted in the avant-garde tradition but draws influence from the cinematic world of John Carpenter, with its ominous, synth-driven atmosphere and suspenseful tone.

Brutalised Robotics is a bold exploration of sound, an audacious marriage of punk ethos and digital experimentation, which somehow manages to stay grounded in a well-thought-out sonic landscape.

For those who love their music on the edge, Brutalised Robotics is a thrilling listen. Dez Dare’s vision shines through in every aspect of this track, from the raw energy of the guitar riffs to the digital flourishes that give it that unmistakable 80s video game feel.

It’s a discovery worth diving into, especially if you’re seeking something that challenges conventions and takes bold risks in its approach.

Dez Dare launches into 2025 with his latest single, Brutalised Robotics, a thought-provoking exploration of humanity’s exploitation of technology and living beings. Raising questions about consciousness, success, and survival, the track challenges the notion of dominance versus longevity—suggesting that one day, all sentient beings will reclaim their freedom.

The alter ego of Darren Smallman, Dez Dare hails from Geelong, Australia, where he emerged in the punk and rock scene of the 1990s, sharing stages with legends like Fugazi, Cosmic Psychos, and The Hard-Ons before turning his focus to running record labels such as God Unknown and BATTLE WORLDWIDE.

Now based in Brighton, UK, Dez operates from his self-built studio, crafting his signature blend of fuzz-drenched psychedelic punk. His sound has been described as a collision of MONSTER MAGNET and DEVO, with The Wire praising his razor-sharp lyricism and relentless hooks. Brutalised Robotics sees Dez joined by Laura Loriga on backing vocals, adding a fresh layer to his raw and surreal sonic world.
