Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Big Mountain County. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked their way of composing music and their influences.
The sound of this band reminded me of the way of composing music of the 70s / 80s British bands.
It was very interesting to discover that this band is from Rome instead.
A rock style with no strings attached, irreverent and energetic with very catchy melodies that stay in your head for a long time.
It feels like these guys have spent a lot of time in the rehearsal room to achieve such an enviable sound understanding.
The drummer is banging followed like a shadow by the bass that follows the rhythmic designs of the kick.
The guitars push with acid sounds and the voice completes the work with a unique timbre and an interpretative style that distinguishes the sound of this band even more.
A nice discovery that I recommend to everyone.
What? is Big Mountain County’s Single Out Now!
Energetic and Irriverent!
Big Mountain County is a four piece band based in Rome, Italy. For these boys, it’s been all about solid live performance and sweaty psychsexrock from the get-go. In just a few years the band has earned international acclaim for their European tours and participation in festivals: at Binic Folks Blues Festival (France) they were invited to perform two years in a row and at Rome Psych Fest, the press unanimously declared them “best live band 2016”. As a consequence, they sold out of first press vinyls and Gas Vintage Records (their label at the time) had to put a rush on a second pressing of their first album “Breaking Sound”. 2016 saw them embark on an intensive tour schedule and as a testament to the strength of their stunning performances, Area Pirate Records released the live album “Anachronicle”.
Moreover, in November of the same year, they released a 12inches split with the Italian lo-fi band “Lame” for Annibale Records (Italy).
In May 2019 they published a 7 inches for Porto Records (Italy), with the single song “Just a boy”, yet released
digitally in February. This release is followed by few gigs in Italy, opening the Italian tour of Cloud Nothings. In
January 2020, the band released its second LP “Somewhere Else” for Porto Records. We’re talking killer riffs sideby-side with soaring vocals and synths that color midnight melodies.
The songs range from personal narratives to journeys down an existential abyss – all of them carried by heart-felt grooves. At the end of February 2020, Big Mountain County started the “Somewhere Tour” in France, Spain and Italy, sponsored by Italia Music Export, suddenly interrupted after the first ten gigs by COVID-19 emergency. They were going to play also at the SXSW2020 in Austin, at the Fusion Festival 2020 in Berlin and in many other festivals in Spain, France and UK scheduled in summer 2020.
Big Mountain County’s new single, “What?” is out now, followed by other two songs during the autumn.
