Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Am Samstag. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked the vibes and energy of their music.
I was literally impressed with the sound of this band.
The Rock of the ’90s is what I’ve always liked the most and these guys made me take a leap into the past.
Special mention to the singer’s voice, this girl has a wild rock spirit in her, in some moments, the way she screams reminded me of Kurt.
Although it is evident that Am Samstag take inspiration from grunge in my opinion they have succeeded, with small harmonic nuances and careful sound research, to make the overall sound more modern.
I would call this style the “New Grunge” thanks also to the legendary Jack Endino who produced this fantastic album. I honestly found no fault with this music product.
This band has clear ideas on which way to go to reach the masses and they follow their vision with courage.
A beautiful discovery that I highly recommend to everyone.
Dualism is Am Samstag’s Album Out Now!
Impressive and Powerful!
Am Samstag (which means «on Saturday» in German) may hail from the land of Yodel, but the Swiss trio plays a dirty and savage grunge, tinged with punk and sprinkled with pop. Comprising of bassist Stephane Grand, drummer Baptiste Maier and guitarist/vocalist Gabriela Varela, the band was formed in September 2018 in Lausanne.
In February 2019, Am Samstag released their debut EP 1 on their own label Black Market Music. Recorded in Fribourg, the songs were mixed by Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nirvana, L7) and mastered by Chris Hanzsek (The Melvins, Soundgarden). To promote the release, the band went on a small tour, playing over twenty shows in Switzerland, France and the United States, notably performing at the Reggie’s (Chicago) and the legendary Whisky A Go Go (Los Angeles).
Early 2020, the members of Am Samstag returned to Seattle to record new songs with Jack Endino at Soundhouse Recording. Produced and mixed by the latter, the album was once again mastered by Chris Hanzsek.
