Maybe many of you already know it but during this year’s Super Bowl an advertisement particularly impressed the fans of the cult movie Edward Scissorhands and since @edgarallanpoets are big fans of this film we could not avoid sharing this news with our Noir Family.
Edward Scissorhands has a son: his name is Edgar and he has the face of Timothée Chalamet.
The actor starred in a Cadillac Super Bowl commercial that revisits Tim Burton’s 1990 cult film. The commercial also features Winona Ryder, reprising the role of Kim Boggs.
After Edgar finds an escape route through a virtual reality driving game, Ryder gives his son a Cadillac Lyriq, which has an autopilot, so that he can keep his “scissorhands” off the wheel.
“Edward Scissorhands is a film that I loved growing up and the opportunity to enter that world was a dream come true” said Chalamet in an interview with Vogue. “I was also very excited about LYRIQ’s emphasis on environmental sustainability and reducing the use of cars that depend on fossil fuels. It seemed like the perfect combination of heritage and a look to the future “».
The tribute to Edward Scissorhands continues a tradition of brands that revisit cult films for very expensive Super Bowl commercials: in the last ten years, the advertisements for the event have taken up Groundhog Day, Home Alone, The Big Lebowski, and most recently, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
We hope that this commercial can kick-start the production of a second film and that finally this fantastic character, first played by Johnny Depp, can gift us again with new unforgettbale emotions.
