E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Panem
Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Panem. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and I liked their rock sound.
Panem propose us a beautiful, energetic and refined music.
Heavy, distorted guitars with the drum that pushes incessantly accompanied by the bass that follows the kick in every movement, while the voice of the singer gives a more melodic nuance to the sound of this band, making it immediately recognizable.
Surely we are in front of good musicians who have spent a lot of time in the rehearsal room, and you can tell by how close-knit they are while playing together.
The melodic progressions have a lot of variations that are able to keep you glued to the speakers from the first to the last second.
The arrangements are sophisticated and at times seem to wink at a late 80’s rock style. Panem, however, manage to give the right touch of modernity and that balance makes them unique.
A nice discovery coming directly from France that I absolutely recommend.

The name Panem comes from the Latin phrase panem and circenses (bread and games or circuses), an expression that denounced the Roman emperors’ egotism: the deliberate use of bread distributions and the organization of games for the purpose of flattering the people in order to attract the benevolence of the masses – which still persists to this day in the Zeitgeist.
It is a perilous yet inevitable exercise to categorize oneself, to claim to belong to a musical genre without feeling boxed into it. Our songs are said to tell stories. So maybe that’s it, telling stories through music, over an indie rock background, somewhat progressive with structures, textures and moods. The sum of the influences and musical journeys of each member makes for a protean music: the sum of multitudes.
Starting off in late 2018, Panem have their debut EP Zeitgeist / Absolute Monopoly in September 2020.
