From the first track, “Wrestling Leviathan (Day Star Arise),” you’re immediately immersed in a complex world that pulls heavily from progressive rock influences.
The intricate shifts in atmosphere keep you on your toes, blending layers in a way that feels familiar and unexpected.
The title track, “A Road Without Any More Detours (Dawn Breaks Anew),” pushes even further into psychedelic rock territory, combining vintage 70s elements with a modern edge that feels almost futuristic.
There’s a fusion of eras in Manard’s approach that adds a unique texture to his work. The more relaxed “Lost on a Dime (Blink of an Eye)” contrasts this with a laid-back vibe, though the arrangements remain rich and almost baroque in their detail.
A standout track is “You Are My Life (Tragoúdi agápis ston Iisoú mou),” a beautifully refined ballad that evokes shades of David Bowie. The melody is striking, bringing an emotional depth that stays with you long after the song ends.
Another highlight is “Burning the Plow (No Turning Back),” with its medieval-tinged intro that slowly evolves into Manard’s signature intricate and visionary style.
The album closes with “Facing the Thing You Fear Most,” maintaining the solid thematic and musical vision set throughout. It’s a fitting end to an album that consistently pushes boundaries and invites the listener to join Manard on an artistic journey.
He is an artist unafraid to experiment, continuously challenging what can be done in the realm of progressive and psychedelic rock.

Manard’s journey has been marked by a series of life-altering events, including a marital separation, the impact of the COVID-19 lockdowns, bankruptcy, and a near-death experience. These hardships ultimately led him to a spiritual rebirth, which he describes as a “warrior for Christ” moment, occurring on a serene summer night on June 14, 2020.
The new album chronicles this transformative period in his life, with each of the ten tracks serving as a chapter in a story of perseverance, faith, and personal growth.“I sing about my weaknesses and triumphs so that Christ’s power may rest on me,” Manard states, citing 2 Corinthians 12:9 as an inspiration for his work. The album’s-central themes revolve around walking the “narrow road” and pursuing an “upward call” toward a place of peace and enlightenment, free from life’s distractions and detours. Through his music, Manard aims to encourage others to keep moving forward, regardless of their obstacles.
