Beautiful Mysterious is Keeley’s Album Out Now

Good Day Noir Family,
Keeley’s album Beautiful Mysterious is a deeply emotional and intricate tribute crafted by the band’s lead architect, Keeley Moss.

Beautiful Mysterious is Keeley’s Album Out Now

From the opening track, A Doorway to Another World, you’re transported into a dreamlike journey with the sound of a passing train, hinting that you’re about to embark on a nostalgic trip through time.

The influences of the ’80s are present but subtly modernized, giving the album a timeless quality that feels familiar and new.

The second track, Trans-Europe 18, continues this ethereal vibe. What strikes me most about Keeley’s sound is its suspended quality, as if floating between eras.

The electronic keys are expansive, and the reverberated, airy vocals elevate the track to another level.

There’s a shimmering magic in Inga Maria’s Dream, with a soft, nostalgic atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re uncovering old memories tucked away in a dusty drawer.

The imagery is strong, as if each song reveals a forgotten photograph, tinted with time.

One of the standout moments is Galloway Princess, which brings a rock energy to the album, charging you up while still keeping within the band’s signature ethereal style.

It’s a high point of momentum in the tracklist, providing a different, but welcome burst of vitality.

Perhaps the most intense piece is Inga Hauser, a haunting tribute to the mystery that resonated with Keeley Moss. This tragic story of a young woman murdered in 1988 is reflected in the album’s emotional depth, with Moss herself having spent years investigating the case.

The raw power of this track is further echoed in Scratches on Your Face, where a dystopian atmosphere mixes with a psychedelic twist. This song, in particular, hit me with R.E.M. influences, especially in the melody of the verses, making it one of my personal favorites.

The album closes with You Were the Beauty, a melancholic reflection, wrapping up the collection of songs dedicated to Inga Hauser.

Every track feels like a deeply personal homage to a life cut tragically short, and the weight of that story is carried throughout the album.

The music not only commemorates Inga’s life but also draws listeners into the emotional depths of loss and memory, creating an album that lingers long after the final note.

Nostalgic!

KEELEY, fronted by singer, guitarist, songwriter and enigmatic Dubliner Keeley Moss enjoyed a transformative year in 2023. On 30th June, they released their debut album “Floating Above Everything Else” on Dimple Discs.

The live band went from strength to strength in 2023 playing blistering shows in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Leeds, Belfast and Cork. They are currently a trio featuring Keeley Moss on guitar and vocals, Lukey Foxtrot on bass and former Morrissey drummer Andrew Paresi.

As with all her songs, Keeley continues her ongoing fascination with the murder and short life of teenage German backpacker Inga Maria Hauser, who was brutally murdered in Northern Ireland in 1988 and whose case remains unsolved despite many promising leads pointing to the culprits. As an authority on the subject, Keeley recently appeared in “Murder In The Badlands”, a moving BBC documentary that further explores Inga Maria’s tragic demise, and a brand new film centered around Keeley’s involvement with the case is in development. Read Keeley’s account of the case at The Keeley Chronicles.
