The opening track, Crazy Shaky Dizzy World, feels like stepping into a small-town carnival, where people are dancing, eating burgers, and enjoying the warm, lively atmosphere.
It’s a song that invites fun, fueled by infectious rhythms and a celebratory spirit.
Number One in the (Fools) Charts stands out with its Hawaiian guitar slide work, adding a unique flavour that sets this band apart.
The Hawaiian influences give the track a laid-back yet playful vibe, and the slide guitar adds a refreshing twist to the Western roots that shape much of the album.
The chilled-out track Out of Tune takes you straight to a beachside cocktail party, warming your soul with its breezy tones and relaxed melodies.
One standout is Honaunau Napoopoo, a piece that brings you back to the technicolour days of ’70s cinema, creating a romantic, nostalgic feeling.
Mystery Train, on the other hand, is a burst of energy from start to finish. This track drives forward relentlessly, making it nearly impossible to resist the urge to move—it’s a fast-paced anthem that will light up any room.
The title track, Something Strange, blends the band’s many influences seamlessly, marrying jazz with Western, while maintaining that distinct Hawaiian feel. It’s the perfect encapsulation of their style: adventurous, eclectic, and unmistakably original.
The track Home For Sale rounds off the album with a whimsical vibe, featuring horns reminiscent of a small-town parade, showcasing yet another facet of their diverse musical style.
This album demands multiple listens to truly appreciate all its layers and nuances. Hawaiian Pistoleros have crafted a wild and colourful journey that’s impossible to ignore.
The musicianship is top-notch, and the production quality is impeccable, a fantastic album that I suggest to everyone.
