Apprentice Green is flakebelly’s Album Out Now
Good Day Noir Family,
flakebelly’s “Apprentice Green” is an album that instantly enchants with its ethereal style, creating a mesmerizing experience right from the start.
Apprentice Green is flakebelly’s Album Out Now
The opening track, “TimeBomb,” drips with nostalgia and magic, offering a vocal performance that whispers its way into your consciousness, drawing you into a parallel universe where time seems to stand still.
What The Thunder Said is another standout track, with jazz influences that add complexity and depth. Here, flakebelly’s ability to blend genres is evident, showcasing his skill in composing songs that are intricate and deeply expressive.
Caution delivers a primal intensity that’s hard to ignore. Its dystopian attitude makes it one of the album’s most striking tracks, resonating with an energy that feels ancient and immediate.
The haunting vibes continue with Nightspiders, a noir-infused piece that conjures images of foggy London streets. The atmosphere, paired with a fantastic bassline, creates a sense of eerie wonder.
Plackwitch On The Bettigown stands out for its theatrical flair, revealing yet another facet of flakebelly’s compositional style. It’s a track that intrigues and captivates, pulling the listener deeper into the album’s rich narrative.
The most accessible song on the album, Bellwether, is a refined piece with subtle echoes of Bowie. The avant-garde piano lines and the melody’s delicate instability make it a track that’s as unsettling as it is beautiful.
Butterfly Brain brings a dreamy, nostalgic quality reminiscent of bands like Grant Lee Buffalo, expanding the listener’s horizons with its infinite sense of possibility.
All the songs on this album are solid and I suggest listening to it more times to enjoy all the details.
In sum, “Apprentice Green” is a stunning album that blends the mystical with the melancholic, offering a deeply immersive experience.

Enchanting!
Hidden away in the windswept landscapes of the Outer Hebrides, flakebelly emerges as a distinctive voice in the music world, blending the boundaries of psychedelic indie rock with acoustic folk-jazz. His sound is a mosaic of jazzy piano melodies, blues-infused guitar riffs, and ambient textures that together create an experimental and genre-defying experience.
Flakebelly’s unique approach to songwriting is gaining recognition, with his track ‘In Parks Of Tall Trees’ recently featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music ‘Introducing Mixtape.’ This recognition marks just the beginning for an artist whose ripples are slowly but surely building from an avalanche of creative ideas and relentless experimentation.
The journey began in the early 2000s when flakebelly first picked up a guitar, setting the stage for a musical evolution that has been as diverse as it has been profound. This evolution led to the release of his indie-folk EPs, ‘Behaviours,’ in 2022, followed by ‘Lo Fidelity’ in 2024. Looking ahead, his upcoming album, ‘Apprentice Green,’ set for release 11th November 2024, promises to push his creative boundaries even further.
