Saturday Night in Bartertown is The Margaret Hooligans’ Album Out Now
Good Day Noir Family,
The Margaret Hooligans deliver a whirlwind of musical excitement in their latest album, “Saturday Night in Bartertown.”
The band’s signature style shines through in tracks like “Doggie Pizza Crust,” “My Dog Ringo” and “What Kind of Donut Are You?”.
Their hard-rocking side is expressed in “The Lost Stilt Walkers,” “Witch on the Corner,” and “New Speedway Boogie.” Each song brims with energy, featuring cowbells, slide ukuleles, and djembes that create a circus-like atmosphere while leaving listeners’ sonic doors blown wide open.
Their reimagining of “New Speedway Boogie” (Grateful Dead cover) takes on a raw and edgy feel, a contrast to the original’s laid-back style.
Themes of loneliness, gluten deprivation, love for a dog, gentrification, vanishing New Orleans stilt walkers, and drifting lovers intertwine throughout the album, forming a chaotic rock ‘n’ roll buffet.
The Margaret Hooligans showcase their diverse musical palate, delivering nothing less than an eclectic and captivating listening experience.
Not to be overlooked is the album’s striking artwork, courtesy of the talented Iden Crockett, adding a delightful visual dimension to the band’s already impressive artistic repertoire.
In “Saturday Night in Bartertown,” The Margaret Hooligans have once again demonstrated their musical prowess and ability to craft engaging stories through song, making this album a must-listen for any music enthusiast with an appreciation for creativity and originality.
