Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Neatly Drawn Blinds. I discovered this Band while shuffling songs on Spotify and was fascinated by the uniqueness of their style.
The sound of this band is very intriguing as it is so original and different that it becomes difficult to compare it to any other artist.
A compositional style that lives in a unique limbo that takes its cue from the past but manages to be modern at the same time.
The thing I liked the most is the mysterious melodies that seem to hide a secret … all the songs confirmed this feeling.
The production is very good and the album, in general, is very coherent as it takes you to a particular musical universe … while listening to these beautiful melodies I imagined deserted beaches and forests that lose their leaves in autumn.
Neatly Drawn Blinds music manages to speak directly to the soul and heart of the listener and let you discover unknown parts of your unconscious.
A truly special and unique band that I highly recommend to everyone.
What If I Remember is Neatly Drawn Blinds’ Album Out Now!
Unique and Nostalgic!
From Richmond, VA, based in Mexico City, Neatly Drawn Blinds is headed by Nathan Burns, with contributions from Rob Dessimoz (Strange Cut) and Josh Schmidt (Schmidt).
Burns began playing bass and guitar in the early 2000s, spurred on by the emo and rock scenes of the time. He bounced around between various hard rock, pop, and experimental groups during his formative years. He later formed the indie folk/americana duo Sleepy Brother, the groovy instrumental project Dr. Hands, as well as the rock outfit Strange Cut, both with Dessimoz.
Known for a relaxed sound that combines acoustic elements with electronic instrumentation, Neatly Drawn Blinds takes inspiration from groups like The Whitest Boy Alive, Copeland, and Tame Impala. Throughout the winter of 2020, NDB released a flurry of singles on SoundCloud before releasing a 3-song EP and a split-single. These songs defined the early style of an acoustic base layer, colorful lead lines, and the occasional synth or organ for flavor.
Most recently, the band embarked on a new sound that features varied rhythms, bouncy indie guitar, and a stronger vocal approach.
