E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like – Matt McClure
Good Day Noir Family,
our “E.A.Poets Approved/Bands We Like” section is dedicated to Matt McClure. I discovered this artist while shuffling songs on Spotify and I was fascinated by his music.
The sound proposed by this artist immediately intrigued me.
A compositional method that takes its cue from the past but manages to be modern at the same time.
The interesting thing in my opinion is that although this artist is an American from Seattle, his music seems to have English influences. For some reason, the singing and melodic lines reminded me of the legendary U.K. bands.
This album is very well thought out, a coherent and mature work. Honestly, I haven’t found any flaws, all the songs are solid and the production is very good.
Surely Matt McClure is an artist with a lot of experience behind him and you can understand it as the melodic lines and the chord progression are never predictable and banal.
A nice discovery that I recommend to everyone.

Quote: “I am/was the songwriter and singer for the bands The Figurants and Red Kitchen and I have released 7 albums to date. I’m from New Jersey originally but now I reside in Seattle, WA.
I started Goodbye Felons as a follow up to the last Figurants album “Indoor Words” a few years back. After critically damaging my computer, I spent a year recording directly on my iPhone. I was able to record entire drum takes using only my phone which was important as I’d just had my drummer retire from active duty.
These songs together tell the story of an ancient kspirit, formerly human, who returns to Earth after thousands of years by inhabiting the body of a fallen small town sheriff addicted to his own anger.
Conversely, it also tells the parallel story of my life during a pandemic as my marriage crumbles and I struggle with my own fears as a father and an aging, unknown artist.
The album was written and recorded by me with mixing and/or mastering done by Erik Sahd, Micah Smith and Jake George. I also did the art”.
